The Post-9/11 GI Bill has enabled more than a million veterans to pursue their post-military educational goals. However, certain veterans are precluded from fully utilizing this important benefit.
For the past decade and a half, our country has been sending Guardsmen and Reservists into harm’s way at an unprecedented level. Nearly 3,000 of these Citizen Soldiers have bled for our country, but have not accrued enough active duty time to attain full GI Bill benefits. Purple Heart recipients have earned and deserve full GI Bill eligibility.
The Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017 would fix this injustice and make many more improvements to the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
